Vanessa just posted this image to our Instagram account yesterday... it's one of the very first illustrations I printed up as a card for Sister Moon Graphics. I was inspired to design this after reading an incredibly beautiful nonfiction book by Dava Sobel entitled "Galileo's Daughter: An Historical Memoir of Science, Faith, and Love." It is a long collection of letters written to Galileo by his eldest daughter, a cloistered nun, at a critical point in his life. This book documents the decades of their devoted correspondence in which she served not only as a profound emotional support but as his most intimate intellectual companion. It is an amazing window into a part of history that is often distorted and misunderstood. I recommend this outstanding work to anyone seeking a better understanding of the Church's true historical role in the promotion of science generally and in Galileo's own life in particular.
