All Saints Day and All Souls Day are a palpable turning point in the year....in the coming weeks there may yet be a few last warm afternoons, but their light is lower in the sky and fades more quickly. We anticipate the family gatherings which will come soon as the year begins to draw in upon itself with that particular sensation that feels like the beginning of an end. It is the time of year that pulls us into thinking about that time of life. The gloriously warm, long days of summer are behind us. Dark evenings begin to color our schedules, though often beautiful in their own way if we take the time to look up into the deep, star-filled sky. We pray for those in our family who are no longer with us, remembering how unexpectedly that final separation can come. We pray in thanks for the time that is given us to share with our loved ones, and ask for the wisdom to appreciate the deep meaning and beauty of every season.
